Junior Symposium 2024: Connections & Communications

We were delighted to welcome pupils from Dulwich College for the annual Junior Symposium, which this year focused on the theme of Connections & Communications.

The day began with pupils gathering together in our Holst Hall to listen to rousing opening speeches from the day’s keynote speakers; Wendy Hurrell (BBC News Journalist) and Kate Royal (Soprano).

Inspired and raring to go, pupils then spilt into smaller groups and began taking on the myriad of activities organised, which included:

  • Partner Drawing (A collaboration that encouraged communication and sharing by creating a still life drawing using both your left and right hands and drawing on the same page together)
  • Possible Present (In this philosophy decision-based activity pupils explored how human connections are formed through receiving and giving gifts)
  • Forest Treasure (Pupils worked together to create maps to help other find hidden treasure in The Copse)
  • Write a Hit Song! (Using their powerful communication skills, pupils created an uplifting song about what connects us all)
  • Remark! (Pupils learnt basic sign language and discovered how this innovative Deaf Charity makes content accessible for dead people)

Elsewhere, pupils explored the work of illustrator Christoph Niemann in Cartoon Communications, as well as enjoying brilliant Drama and MFL sessions.

Victoria Goodson, Head of Junior School, said: “It has been a wonderful, inspiring day of collaboration with Dulwich College for the latest Junior School Symposium.

“Today’s event focused on the themes of Connections and Communication with a whole host of activities designed to increase pupils’ understanding and appreciation of these important life skills. It was an absolute pleasure to host the day and see first-hand the teamwork on display throughout.

“We are grateful for the hard work of all the staff that made today possible, as well as our brilliant visiting speakers.”
