Does JAGS take overseas candidates?
We welcome applications from overseas; however, please note that we do not sponsor incoming pupils for student visas and can only accept applications on behalf of candidates who are relocating with their families to the UK. Please note that we cannot assess 4+ candidates remotely and all applicants must attend one of the UK assessment dates to be considered for a place. For 7+ entry, whilst we would hope that candidates applying from Europe would travel to London for their entrance examination, candidates applying from further afield are welcome to sit their papers at their current school as long as their Head is content for the school to oversee the entrance examination. This is a conversation for the candidate’s family to have with their daughter’s school prior to making an application to JAGS.
Please note, references are sought from an applicant’s current school on application.
Enquiries about overseas applications should be addressed to our Junior School Admissions Officer, Buffy Handslip, on jsadmissions@jags.org.uk or by calling +44(0)20 613 6336

If an applicant has special needs, how will this be accommodated?
We work in partnership with families to provide the appropriate support for all our students. Please ensure that you notify us in advance if your daughter has any special educational needs, learning difficulties, disabilities or circumstances which require us to make reasonable adjustments to our assessments, or which might affect your child’s performance in the assessment, so that special consideration can be given. If you are applying for extra time for the 7+ assessment, please submit a recent educational psychologist’s report, no older than three years, at the time of registration.

Does the school operate a reserve list?
Our Junior School is oversubscribed, and we are not always able to offer places to all the children who have performed well in our assessments and who we feel have potential to thrive at our school. For these applicants we operate a reserve list in case we can offer a place after the deadline for acceptances has passed. We do not provide information regarding the number of applicants or the position of any applicant on the reserve list.

Do students have to live near the school?
It is expected that students should live within a reasonable distance of the school so that their journey to and from JAGS is not too demanding. We may query an application where, in our opinion, the home location necessitates an overly long or arduous journey.
-
Do you accept applications from students whose first language is not English?
We do accept applications from students whose first language is not English. However, students should be fluent in English to ensure they are able to keep pace academically with their peers at JAGS and to benefit from the wide and varied co-curricular opportunities offered at the school.
-
Can I still register my child if I cannot afford the registration fee?
Yes. The registration fee is not payable if you are currently in receipt of Universal Credit or your daughter is in receipt of Pupil Premium (free school lunches). You should complete the Pupil Premium Registration form, which waives the registration fee.
-
Can my child be considered for a place if I cannot afford the school fees?
Yes. You can apply for financial assistance to help cover the costs of your school fees. The financial assistance is means tested and more detail about the process can be found here
-
Do you have any boarding facilities on-site?
JAGS is a day school and does not provide any boarding facilities for students. We can only accept applications on behalf of candidates who are living in travelling distance of the school with their immediate families. Please note that we do not accept applications from candidates living with a guardian.
