Sport
Our dedicated PE Department provides opportunities for pupils to be involved in individual and team sports at every level.
In the Pre-Prep, the focus is on building fundamental skills, coordination and motor skills in preparation for team sports, which begin at the Prep.
In the Prep School, pupils have the opportunity to participate in football, netball, hockey, cricket, athletics and cross-country in their regular PE lessons, as well as in co-curricular clubs. Pupils are also encouraged to compete competitively in any sport they wish to, and teams cater to pupils of all abilities. JAGS Junior School pupils regularly compete in national competitions and other high-profile events.

We employ a number of passionate Visiting Music Teachers (VMTs), who are extremely talented musicians in their own right. Individual lessons can be arranged to take place both during school time and after school. VMTs ensure that their pupils have regular opportunities to perform individually, as well as in ensembles and concerts during the year. Theory and Aural clubs are available for those who would like extra support in preparation for examinations or who have discovered a particular passion for this aspect of their musical education.

Art and Design Technology
Art is fundamental to a child’s development, their curiosity and understanding of the world around them. Pupils learn to express themselves through drawing, painting, clay modelling and sculpture, and they explore and learn about the work of famous artists from across the world. There are often trips and visits to art galleries and exhibitions across London to consolidate their learning.
Pupils’ work is regularly entered into national competitions, and they have been successful on many occasions, including exhibiting their works at the Royal Academy of Art.

Clubs & Trips
Clubs are an integral part of each day at JAGS Junior School, allowing pupils to develop skills and interests far beyond the curriculum. There are countless clubs that pupils can choose from, and these range from sports clubs to Art Club, International Cuisine Club, Sewing Club and Coding Club.
Our programme of school trips enriches pupils’ learning outside of the classroom, as well as enhancing their skills in communication and exploring the wider world. Day trips are a common occurrence at the Junior School, and in recent years, pupils have visited London Aquarium, the London Eye, the Horniman Museum, Hampton Court Palace, various theatres and even taken a day trip to France! In the Prep School, pupils regularly attend theatre performances and visit exhibitions and galleries, as well as having the opportunity to go on residential trips across the UK and abroad, during their Activities Week in the summer term.
Houses
There are four Houses at JAGS, each inspired by a significant figure in our history: Caroline Bettany, pioneering Headmistress, Lilian Clarke, innovative Botany teacher, Margaret Desenfans, sponsor of Dulwich Picture Gallery, and Gustav Holst, inspirational Director of Music.
The House system provides endless opportunities for pupils to build friendships across year groups and to enjoy some healthy competition amongst their peers. When pupils join JAGS, they will be placed in a House and remain in that same House throughout their time with us.
