Our partnerships are integral to life at JAGS and are mutually beneficial to all involved.
Our Partner Schools
We have several long-running academic partnerships, most notably the Saturday School Literacy Scheme in which our pupils help younger students from local primary schools with their reading.
We take pride in being founding members of the Southwark Schools’ Learning Partnership, in which 17 independent and state schools join forces to share events, resources and knowledge.

JAGS Parents’ Association
The JAGS Parents’ Association (JPA) is a volunteer committee providing the parent community an opportunity to engage and support the school as well as each other. Its goal is to organise and coordinate a number of ‘friendraising’ and fundraising activities that foster a JAGS community spirit and support the aims of the school. Monies raised goes towards the school’s bursary fund.
All parents are automatically members of the JPA and can take a more active role by becoming committee members and/or a Class or Year Rep, or to volunteer at a larger event. The JPA committee is a great way to meet other parents and engage with the school. It is made up of 24 members, with the Head as the President.
Class or Year Reps – organise socials for parents, teacher presents, as well as be the link for the class and school as needed.

SSLP
The Southwark Schools’ Learning Partnership (SSLP) is a unique collaboration between 17 local schools based in and around Southwark. It connects teachers and pupils from across the borough, and schools organise events, lectures, competitions and much more. What each of our schools has in common is a desire to provide a wealth of academic and vocational opportunities both for students and for teachers, where each can learn with and from their peers.
Saturday School Literacy Scheme
Each Saturday, around fifty Year 3 children arrive at JAGS excited to develop their literacy through interactive and engaging small group activities and presentations. The project involves experienced teachers and JAGS pupils providing literacy booster sessions for children who may be struggling. Strong relationships with local primary schools ensure that children are selected carefully and invited to attend this very unique programme. This scheme has now been running successfully for over 20 years.
Local schools partnerships
JAGS regularly teaches pupils from other schools, dependent on need. For the past two years, for example, pupils from St Saviour’s and St Olave’s School have been studying Computer Science A Level at JAGS.
JAGS also benefits from relationships with local primary schools, and invites their pupils to musical events, author visits and theatre workshops amongst other activities. Local primary schools are also invited to use our playing fields for their sporting events.
For us, the opportunities for students to share experiences is of real importance.
AHLU
JAGS helps to fund an independent charity which teaches History of Art to pupils from lower income families. Art History Link-Up’s mission is to provide an opportunity for students from diverse backgrounds to learn about, and have direct access to, visual culture and to open up career and further education choices through the gaining of accredited qualifications.
Link Age Southwark
We work closely with Link Age Southwark, and regularly invite older members of our community into school to take part in a Silver Surfers group. The seniors enjoy acquiring the technical know-how to shop online or Skype grandchildren, helped by Sixth Formers who themselves learn new skills from leading these sessions.
Music and Drama
JAGS hosts many community music groups at weekends and during school holidays. These include JASSPA (James Allen’s Saturday School for the Performing Arts), a specialist termly music school for 300 students and from across South London. SLYO (South London Youth Orchestra) runs holiday courses three times a year with over 700 children and young people participating in four full orchestras and chamber music. For adult members of our local community interested in music, there is the JASSPA Community Choir, JAGS Choral Society or the James Allen Community Orchestra, all of which meet regularly and take part in a varied programme of musical events.
JAGS Sports Club
JAGS Sports Club offers a vast array of facilities to members and the wider community. When not in use by the school, members of JAGS Sports Club can enjoy unlimited use of the outstanding 25m swimming pool, badminton courts, cardio equipment, climbing wall, free weights gym, CycleFit studio, squash court, and can also choose from a huge selection of weekly classes including Yoga and Pilates. The Club also runs a very popular Holiday Club programme for children.
