JAGS wins sustainability award
The school’s “creative and comprehensive approach” was praised by judges at the School House Awards 2023
We are proud to announce that JAGS has been crowned Sustainability Champion at the School House Awards 2023.
Judges commended our “creative and comprehensive approach” and stated: “Leaders have chosen to take this seriously by employing a dedicated Sustainability Lead to focus on five pillars but their efforts go way beyond this. So much goes on behind the scenes of course. The magic lies in how this is seeping into the students’ education on a daily basis.”
They called our student-led climate café a “breath of fresh air” and added: “Staff are leading by example but also giving plenty of space for young people to make a difference through the repair club for example, and develop their own voices and sense of agency. JAGS has a strong strategy with tangible goals.”
As winners, we will receive an official champions plaque and books on the topic of sustainability for our students.
Sustainability Lead Priya Hira said: “We are over the moon to win this award against such tough competition. It was inspiring to learn more about the work being done at Truro School and Royal Hospital School and see all the changes being implemented by schools determined to reduce their carbon footprint.
“I’m proud to see the hard work of our students, staff and wider community recognised in this way and cannot wait to share more of the amazing initiatives and changes coming at JAGS in the year ahead.
“With this win, we are more motivated than ever to improve our systems and achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.”
