Year 7 welcomes award-winning author Joseph Elliott

On Wednesday, our Year 7s enjoyed an incredible morning of creativity as they explored the world of mythical creatures with award-winning author and actor Joseph Elliott.

The day began with an assembly from the author for the whole of KS3 in the VWA, after which Year 7s broke away into smaller groups to take part in a series of workshops.

They joined Joseph in the library for an inspirational creative writing workshop where they learnt how to create fantastical creatures within their own stories.

Students brought these creatures to life in our new maker-spaces, while fun-filled dance and music sessions allowed them to explore and embody the wondrous beasts.

The series of events came to the close with a celebratory assembly back in the VWA where pupils were able to showcase their creations. There were dance routines, short story readings and even a mythical creature parade.

Speaking of the visit, Joseph said: “A huge thanks again for organising such a rich and exciting day – definitely one of the best school visits I have ever done; I will remember those performances for a long time!”
