JAGS teams up with SLBI

Earlier this term, JAGS was delighted to take delivery of more than 150 beautiful plants from the South London Botanical Institute’s succulent collection.

The plants have found a new home in our science laboratories while refurbishments take place at the SLBI.

However, their addition has already proved an excellent opportunity for our pupils to learn more about the fascinating species.

Pupils recently enjoyed a visit from SLBI’s education officer Sarah Webley and JAGS alumna Ruth Cousins for a fantastic workshop on propagating succulents.

Amelia and Anjali (both Year 10), share their experiences below:

“You may have noticed that in Labs 4 and 5 there are many plants, these have been put in our care while the South London Botanical Institute (SLBI) building is getting refurbished.

“And on the March 15, JAGS welcomed Mrs Cousins, an alumna of JAGS, and her co-worker Mrs Webley who both work with the SLBI.

“During Mrs Cousins and Mrs Webley’s visit they taught us many different methods to propagate some of their amazing plants.

“The aim of this is to aid the Eco Champions in their aim to put plants in every classroom to enrich them. We hope to be able to teach them how to propagate their own plants in the greenhouse and keep them healthy with the help of the Botany Gardens team.”
