Year 11 students travel to Whitstable for Geography Fieldtrip
On Thursday 16th September, the Geography Department took their first trip in 18 months to the seaside town of Whitstable. They were rewarded for having to wait this long for a fieldtrip by the most glorious weather on the day – sunny, clear blue skies and temperatures of 28C. The Year 11s gained valuable fieldwork physical geography experience measuring beach profiles on Tankerton Beach using ranging poles, clinometers and tape measures. They also analysed beach sediment using calipers and judged their shape against the Powers Index of Roundness.
They also carried out more human geography fieldwork on Whitstable High Street counting pedestrians and conducting environmental quality surveys. They will now be prepared for the fieldwork questions in their GCSE exam as well as developing vital transferrable skills.
