Refreshingly expansive and genuinely supportive: Tatler celebrates the JAGS experience

JAGS is delighted to feature in the Tatler Schools Guide 2027. The review, which you can read in full below, praises our supportive culture, breadth of opportunity and academic ambition, alongside our leading approach to sustainability and commitment to access.

‘What I love most about JAGS is how it encourages every girl to be the best version of herself, in a way that feels genuinely supportive rather than pressured.’ So says one student, and it’s an insight that rings true: this school hones a culture of attentiveness, and its academic life is both disciplined and refreshingly expansive.

The introduction of JAGS Pathways at KS4 – with courses in philosophy, politics, psychology and economics – offers pupils the chance to think beyond the confines of GCSEs, so they develop intellectual curiosity early on; and new deputy head academic Kristina Lewis has brought further momentum to the process with a sharp focus on research-led teaching and thoughtful classroom practice.

But there’s real breadth outside the timetable, too. Music remains a defining strength, from choirs and orchestras to a recent Evensong at St Paul’s Cathedral. Sport is similarly accomplished, with national titles in cricket (U15) and the biathlon (U12), while creative pursuits extend to immersive art projects and even trips to San Francisco’s leading galleries. A strong sense of eco-responsibility runs through life here: pupils grow produce for the kitchen, tend to botany ponds and lead initiatives, from bulb planting to composting schemes, that recycle food waste back into the gardens.

Access is at the heart of the school’s ethos, with more than £3 million spent annually on means-tested bursaries support. Proposals for a new pre-prep building will also unite all students on one site for the first time since 1985.
