JAGS Welcomes Manga Creator Chie Kutsuwada
JAGS was proud to welcome Manga creator Chie Kutsuwada for an inspiring day of creativity and imagination.

The day began with Chie leading a KS3 assembly, where she shared insights into her career as a Manga artist – including, to the delight of our Manga fans, her work on the hugely popular Demon Slayer series. Students were fascinated to learn about Manga’s significant impact on the Japanese economy, as well as Chie’s creative journey and her ongoing collaboration with author Julian Sedgwick on books that blend Manga and prose.

Year 7 students then split into three groups for a series of engaging workshops. Chie led a step-by-step tutorial on designing and drawing her character, Mr Okura. Meanwhile, her amazing team of Sixth Form Japanese students delivered joyful sessions on onomatopoeia, and in the library, students explored creative writing using prompts provided by Chie herself.

Before lunch, Year 7 had the opportunity to share their work with Chie in the VWA, and it was wonderful to see how inspired they were by the morning’s activities.

e are incredibly grateful to Chie for dedicating every moment of her visit to our students – from leading workshops and joining them for lunch, to visiting the brilliant Year 13 Everyday Art Exhibition.
