New Deputy Heads Appointments

We are delighted to announce two exciting new senior appointments at JAGS.

Mr Ben Chappell

Deputy Head Academic

From April 2022, our new Deputy Head Academic will be Mr Ben Chappell, currently Assistant Head (Teaching, Learning and Research) at City of London School for Girls. Ben is passionate about outstanding Teaching and Learning, active research involving the whole school community and embedding the school’s core values into our pedagogical aims. He has a powerful vision for the future of the academic life of our school, based on high aspirations for all students within a modern curriculum; a curriculum that empowers and educates the whole student and shares both fun and scholarship at its heart. Ben will be utilising his teaching skills in the DT department; he studied Industrial Product Design and Engineering at Loughborough University and also has a keen interest in sport. Ben said of his appointment, “I am delighted to be joining JAGS. It is a privilege to become part of this community and I will relish the chance to get to know the students, staff and parents in the coming months.”

Mr Paul O’Dwyer

Deputy Head People

From May 2022, our new Deputy Head People will be Mr Paul O’Dwyer, currently Assistant Head (Head of Middle School) at St Dunstan’s College. Paul is committed to strong and responsive pastoral care with a visible drive to support wellbeing, personal self-care strategies and study skills, so that all JAGS students feel empowered to recognise and react to daily challenges positively and pragmatically. Paul’s vision of a listening culture and a shared vision within a safe and respectful environment aims to ensure that all students thrive and can go out into the world inspired, empowered and determined to make a difference. An English teacher by background, Paul has degrees from the University of Oxford and UCL Institute of Education, and is a keen cyclist and hill-walker. Paul said of his appointment, “Alex has set out a transformative vision for the school which will ensure JAGS’ outstanding provision adapts authentically to meet future challenges. I am thrilled to be joining the school and look forward to getting to know the JAGS community in person during 2022.”

We thank Sam Payne and Laurence Wesson, our current Deputy Head Pastoral and Deputy Head Academic, for their tireless work in the leadership of the school. We are delighted that they will remain as an integral part of the JAGS community as members of teaching staff going forward.

We very much look forward to welcoming Ben and Paul to our community in 2022.
