Visiting Poet Matt Goodfellow inspires pupils at the Prep School
Last week, poet Matt Goodfellow hosted an assembly and workshops with each class at the Prep School.
Matt is an internationally-published poet from Manchester.
In speaking about his visit, Sylvia and Anaiya in Year 5 said, ‘Matt writes poems about his life, lives that he has seen and made up nonsense. He has written a variety of different poems all perfect and different in their own ways.
During our Year 5 workshop, Matt told us that poetry is ‘rebel writing’ and that he thinks that we can express ourselves in this form of writing. He said that we each have a particular voice that reflects our heritage, life and ideas. Matt showed us lots of different poems from his four books, ‘Being Me’, ‘Be the Change’, ‘Bright Bursts of Colour’ and ‘Chicken on the Roof’.
Matt helped us to write a ‘Blessing Poem’ to someone we care about where good things happen to this person. ‘
A big thank you for Matt for his energy and enthusiasm throughout his visit. Our pupils were definitely left feeling inspired!
