Applying to University
It's an exciting time, planning for your immediate future. Girls are encouraged and helped to identify their individual goals and the Futurewise programme provides a starting point for discussions with tutors about possible university courses.
Parents and girls are invited to a University Admissions Evening where the application process is outlined and speakers from a variety of universities offer advice on how to handle the process effectively. Some girls opt to delay going to university in favour of a Gap Year, or an Art Foundation course and they are given the same level of support and encouragement in preparing their applications.
Trips to the UCAS Olympia Fair and the Oxford and Cambridge Conference provide further opportunities for discussion with experts and lecture slots are used for visiting admissions tutors or to give practical advice on matters such as writing personal statements or organising finance for university. In September a panel of alumnae discuss UCAS and other application processes and reveal something of their current, or recent, experiences of university and gap years.
A team of staff work alongside tutors to help guide and advise girls on their university choices. Subject specialists provide useful insights into the individual requirements for different subjects and help pupils to tailor their reading and writing to reflect their own specific interests. Practice interviews are arranged for every girl and the Oxbridge Coordinators and the Overseas University Advisor provide detailed advice tailored to individual needs.
