Speakers & Specialists
Over the course of the academic year JAGS welcomes an impressive programme of speakers contributing to our learning programme. Specialists from a range of fields, including academic and professional backgrounds, spend time sharing their knowledge with girls across all year groups, often involving animated discussions on the subject in question.
For example, we’ve explored how the brain works, gender inequality, the European Parliament and life in the USSR. In the past year we’ve engaged with speakers including Sir Ian Mckellen, who shared his life story to the whole senior school, and Dr Jane Goodall DBE gave an unforgettable presentation on conservation and her Roots and Shoots Foundation. Inspiration also came from authors Meg Rossof, Katy Moran, Lauren St John, Juno Dawson, Jonathan Beckman and poet Rachael Allen. It was a privilege to hear from local MP Helen Hayes and Dr Charles Tannock MEP. JAGS and South London sixth form students packed our Lecture Theatre for the annual Philosophy Conference addressed by eminent university professors, getting their teeth into ‘The Problem of Consciousness’ amongst other challenges.
