La palabra es lo más bello que se ha creado, es lo más importante de todo lo que tenemos los seres humanos
Flamenco, films, fiestas… Baile, beaches, Barcelona... Welcome to the Spanish department at JAGS! ¡Bienvenidas! We are a dynamic and energetic department and our aim is to give JAGS students a sound grounding in the Spanish language but also a wider understanding of Spanish and Latin American culture, both through our lessons, readings and also through an extensive programme of extra-curricular activities and trips. Spanish is the official language in 20 countries and has over 500 million of speakers. Girls can start Spanish in Year 8, ¿a qué esperas? (what are you waiting for?).
Undoubtedly the residential study trips are the most popular part of the course and a source of memories and cultural understanding. While abroad, girls follow language lessons and are presented with an array of cultural activities specially designed by the Spanish Department. In KS3 girls can join the Barcelona study trip at the end of Year 8 and from Year 10 to Year 13 students can join us every October to our annual study trips to Salamanca, Granada, Sevilla or Madrid; and to Latin America once every three years. The department also offers online collaborative projects (E-Twinning) in the lower years and work experience placements for Sixth Formers.
At the end of their Spanish studies at Jags, girls become proficient in the language and are ready to… travel the Latino world!
Qualifications: CIE IGCSE, AQA A-level and DELE.
The eTwinning action promotes school collaboration in Europe through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) by providing support, tools and services for schools. The eTwinning Portal is the main meeting point and workspace for the action. JAGS has participated in eTwinning projects for the last 5 years and last year our Italian project was awarded the prestigious Quality Label.
