The Art Department at JAGS believes that there is a great deal to be taught in our subject. Be that a strategy in drawing from observation, the exploration of a colour sequence, seeing the potential in material qualities or the visual transposition of an image through a process.
Work in the department is made in a dynamic range of mediums, painting, mixed media, textiles, print, 3D construction, ceramics and digital media. The depth and breadth of the course which effectively runs from Year 7 right the way through to Year 13 is taught entirely in the service of personal choice, confidence and independence and creativity. Extra curricular opportunities be they House competitions, trips or our open studio policy are an essential part of our pupils development. Woven into all our teaching is not only the context of arts’ objects and images but the possibility and potential of the objects and images our girls are making and might make.
