Computing has become an integral part of life and an essential skill for everyone. Due to the ever-changing world of technology we aim to ensure all the children become confident and competent users of technology and to help them to become responsible, respectful and independent learners.
Computing is used across the school to augment all subject areas and this helps to foster an even greater enjoyment of learning. We need to prepare our children today for jobs in the future that don’t yet exist. They need to be divergent thinkers, problem solvers and analysts. Computing will help them to achieve these goals.
The Pre-Prep is well-equipped with LearnPads, laptops and PCs and technology is an integrated component of the school week. Each classroom also houses an interactive whiteboard, projector, digital cameras, digital photo frames and access to video cameras, scanners and web-cams.
The Prep school has a purpose-built Computing suite which Years 1 and 2 also access weekly. The Computing Suite has 24 networked PCs, an interactive whiteboard board and projector and a colour photocopier with scanner. Every classroom is equipped with a computer and interactive whiteboard to provide the very best in resources for our pupils. A set of 24 laptop computers is available for whole-class use as well as a bank of 24 LearnPads. Computing facilitates whole class teaching, grouped work, individual or paired work.
Computing is taught as a discrete subject in the Prep School, generally to groups of twelve pupils. Some of the areas we focus on in JAPS are: Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy, which includes the Online Safety.
