Design & Technology
Design and Technology is taught throughout the school, building children's confidence, skill and creativity in using a wide variety of materials and processes both safely and accurately.
Pupils learn to develop a project using the full design process, through from the initial design to evaluating how well it functions once completed. In the Prep School, all pupils are taught by a specialist teacher for an hour each week in groups of twelve within a specialist workshop. Through a series of stimulating design and make tasks, girls are introduced to computer-aided design and manufacture, electronic design, as well as how to work with more traditional construction materials such as wood, plastic and metal.
Pupils learn to think and intervene creatively to produce a wide range of quality products. They create products formed using mathematical nets in Year 3, handcrafted utensils and games in Year 4, creative interpretation of design movements in Year 5, and construct chassis’ and circuits for electric cars in Year 6.
