‘Drawn Together’ at Dulwich Picture Gallery
Could we have predicted the snow, just when we thought we were home and dry?! All that work for the exhibition and then it came, threatening postponement of the Private View! Plan B: we dressed ourselves in intrepid explorer gear, summoned up our hearty attitudes and trooped down to set up. Snow? What snow? In spite of the really bad weather conditions, we had a roomful of guests and all went superbly.
We were delighted that Ian Dejardin, the Director of the Dulwich Picture Gallery, opened the exhibition for us, emphasizing the quality of the excellent work on show, all exploring drawing in dynamic and varied ways; and also the links that have been made and fostered between JAGS and the Dulwich Picture Gallery. The Linbury Room was packed with pupils, parents, friends and special guests all eager to view the exhibited works. Comments heard all around: ‘I can’t believe the standard of work’ and ‘this work is stunning – a real achievement!’ Visitors seemed impressed at the diversity and investigative nature of the exhibition and the pupils clearly gained a great deal from seeing their work displayed in such a prominent and important national gallery.
‘Drawn Together’ certainly seems an apt name for the exhibition! Please do come along to see the exhibition which continues until the 26th February to experience first hand a flavour of the art experience at JAGS.
Opening times: 2.30-5pm. Closed Sundays and Mondays and Friday 20th February. Check either the JAGS or Dulwich Picture Gallery web-sites for further details.
