Well done to the Year 7 and Year 8 Netball teams who both won the Surrey preliminary tournament last week.  Both teams now progress to the Surrey finals at the beginning of March.

Congratulations to Natasha Sinha, Year 10, who has recently swum for the London Regional Swimming team in Barcelona at the Spanish Olympic trials! She obviously couldn’t be selected to swim for Spain but it was a great experience!

Congratulations to Sophie Lewis Ward, Year 8, who has achieved the English Schools’ qualifying time for Racewalking at the London Regionals in Victoria Park.  At this early stage of the season Sophie is ranked 4th in the country in the U15 age group and has been told that on current form she should be selected to represent England next year. It’s a terrific achievement – she’s only 12.

Sophie says, “It’s getting harder now but more fun. There are lots of rules, like you must keep contact with the ground, and you have to keep a straight leg when it is on the ground.” Sophie wears special trainers. “They have a really small heel so you can just roll forward.”  Why should people take up Racewalking? “Because it’s different and I like it because it is a contrast to my swimming,” she says.
