JAPS pupil, Kirsty, has won first place in the prestigious Cecchetti Ballet Awards. Kirsty competed against well over 200 dancers in front of a large audience. Here, she tells us about Ballet and how teddies helped her in her early training!

How old were you when you first started Ballet?

When I started Ballet I was about 2 ½

Do you remember anything about your first Ballet class?

I remember trying to hop over teddies! Also, trying to jump!

How much time did you spend learning and improving your solo routine for the competition?

Me and two of my Ballet teachers, Michela and Mrs Angelina, worked on my steps and routine for about a month and a half.

How would you describe Ballet in 3 words?

*Enjoyable

*Happy

*Exciting

Ballet is known to be a difficult discipline! How do you keep determined on the days when you are tired?

When I am tired, I know I will always feel better even though it is quite difficult. I come out of my class knowing that I have achieved something.

Finally, what is your favourite dance move?

It is a ballet step called a baiançe.

Wow! Thanks, Kirsty! Congratulations, again, and we wish you lots of luck and determination for the future. We hope you keep enjoying Ballet as much as Enrico Cecchetti did!
