UCL Chemistry Annual Demonstration Lecture 2012 - Spooklights

Are you afraid of the dark? Can you cope with a total blackout? And can you cope with seeing strange things in the darkness? What if you don't? Are they even real? Should you be afraid? Dr Andrea Sella will explore the strange lights you might see on a dark night and explore the edge of what we know and what we don't.

13 Year 12 Chemistry students attended the lecture at University College London’s Chemistry Department on 18 January to watch and participate in a live performance of a show called ‘Spooklights’ that went out on BBC television a few weeks ago.

Mr. Styles,  Science Enrichment Co-ordinator, says “It’s amazing how many free talks take place at London Universities each week by scientists at the top of their field. The level is pitched at sixth form students and I would encourage more girls to take advantage of these opportunities. Since being introduced to these talks on science department outings I am so pleased at the number who are arranging visits amongst themselves and continuing to learn about science outside of the curriculum.”
