Colourful Cologne

Six Year 9 and 5 Year 10 students got a taster of summer in Cologne where temperatures reached 27 degree Celsius! Our girls and their German exchange partners thus spent most of the time outdoors enjoying the fantastic weather. We spent one day at our partner school, visited the theme park “Phantasialand”, enjoyed several samples and a guided tour in Germany’s only chocolate museum and saw the latest arrival in Cologne Zoo, a 3-day old baby elephant.
On the last day the German girls had a very special surprise in store: they had prepared “friendship padlocks” with the initials of themselves and their British partner. We added them to the ever expanding collection of locks on Cologne’s major bridge over the river Rhein and after the padlock was attached, the two exchange partners threw the key into the river together – a rather special way to celebrate new found friendship.
