VICTORIAN SCHOOL-LIFE WORKSHOPS
The girls in Year One thoroughly enjoyed the sessions on Tuesday morning during which Miss Wilberforce, a very strict Victorian teacher, came to visit. The children, who had to address the teacher as Ma’am, sat in rows with their arms crossed and were only allowed to speak when spoken to. When they did speak they were expected to stand up. They participated in some arithmetic, reading and writing. Children who are left handed were made to write with their right hand. Great fun, if just a little scary!
