Spring
A 200th birthday must surely be celebrated in style and Dulwich Picture Gallery did exactly that on Sunday 9 January. The whole of South London seemed to be packed into the gallery and the grounds, both alive with the strains of Gershwin, Cole Porter and early 16th century and 20th songs. Inspired by the permanent and visiting collection, you could make your own Gallery costume at the Sackler Room’s drop-in family workshop. Clear skies, falcons and fireworks attracted everyone outside and the combined forces of the Big Band from Dulwich College and Wonderbrass from JAGS sent us all home buoyed with enthusiasm for our very own piece of history: the country’s oldest art gallery. Congratulations DPG and well done to all the Wonderbrass players who managed a fine performance despite the cold.
