Support for Water Aid
Water and sanitation are human rights. Yet Tom Drake from Water Aid told us in assembly today that he’d returned from visiting a village of 600 in Mali with no water, no sanitation and no electricity. Comparing our morning preparations with theirs was sobering. In the world today, 1 in 8 people are living without clean water. Since 1981 Water Aid has been trying to ensure access to safe water, good sanitation and improved hygiene, training local people to teach others, trying to change politics and practice.
What can we do to help? Starting on 10 October, JAGS Geography department is running a Drink Water Week, as we do every year. Those who are able to get involved are encouraged to drink nothing but water for a week, and to give all the money saved on other drinks to Water Aid, or to get sponsorship. Others donate to this excellent cause. You can find out more by visiting www.wateraid.org
