Science Week

Super-special Science Week, 7-11 November, erupted into life at this morning’s assembly led by teacher Mr Jamie Styles. We might have known something was up when we had to sing his happy ‘Categoric Variables’ song in place of our usual hymn! Enthusiasm unleashed, Mr Styles had us challenging the certainties.  Einstein’s right, isn’t he? Nothing can travel faster than the speed of light. The whole world of physics is governed by his law. But if it turns out that particles can travel faster than the speed of light, it doesn’t mean that Einstein was wrong, just that we’ve reached the next step in our understanding. “Look how science has evolved in the last 100 years,” he urged us. “We keep changing our models to accommodate the things we observe.” It’s a scientist’s job to understand the past, to challenge the present, to shape the future. We can do it here too, at JAGS level. The Science departments will be laying on a feast of opportunities for staff and pupils from Y7-13 to explore all things scientific next week. That’s a certainty. Watch this space…
