Wednesday lunchtime concerts in Christ’s Chapel are chiming just the right notes for the Dulwich community. It’s a brilliant treat for visitors to Dulwich Picture Gallery to absorb music played by the Foundation Schools in a series of free concerts: From Blues to Bach, organised by the Friends of the Gallery. A large, appreciative audience listened intently on Wednesday 23 November to some of our excellent JAGS music scholars playing pieces by Fauré, Granados, Cimarosa, Schumann and Franck. It was good for them to see the gifts and talents of the youngest Year 7 to the oldest Year 13 scholar. Thank you to them all and to head of Strings, Caroline Davis and Director of Music, Leigh O’Hara. Mr O’Hara hopes that while they are at JAGS the scholars will flourish in an environment conducive to thoughtful music-making and that the experience will leave them and their listeners with a lifelong love of music. It’s working for Jill Alexander, Emeritus Friends Committee Chairman. “It’s the highlight of my week!”
