This international competition is now in its twentieth year and for the first time JAGS entered, sending two teams of girls from Years 7-9 to the South London heat which was held at KCS Wimbledon. There were eight JAGS contestants, who battled it out with 30 teams from others schools in the region, supported by the librarians and a substitute, in case of illness.
Both the JAGS teams achieved the highest score for their table in individual rounds, earning the team members prizes of a new book each; with spot questions between rounds Katie Kassam won two individual rewards for the fastest response!
At the finish JAGS A team was half a mark behind the winners, a team from Dulwich College, who will go on to the national heat next week at Warwick University.
Well done to the teams from JAGS:
A Team -Grace Rogers, Saffie Patel, Daisy Battersby and Iona Tompkins who all receive certificates
B Team – Katie Kassam, Aisling Passmore, Ella Tatham and Kat Rix, who came a very creditable eighth overall.
Everyone, including the substitute Juliet Elson, enjoyed the afternoon very much – the quizzing continued with animated discussions on the homeward journey back to JAGS. We will look forward to having another try next year, and wish Dulwich College success in the next round.
