Fröhliche Weihnachten!
On Friday 25 November at the rather early time of 05:45, 42 tired girls in Years 8, 9 and 10 and five teachers boarded a coach to Germany. After our first breakfast stop the general mood was one of anticipation and a selection of tried and tested comedies helped us pass the time. We arrived in the afternoon in Aachen with its magnificent cathedral and pretty Christmas Markets and everyone enjoyed their first Christmas Market experience of the year. Later we had dinner in our spacious and friendly youth hostel and an early night in anticipation of the excitement the next day would bring.
On Saturday we first went to Bonn, where girls and teachers did some serious Christmas shopping and as in the years before we saved the most magic market for the end: Monschau, a little jewel of a town, like something straight off the pages of the Brothers’ Grimm Fairytales. Year 11 entertained us later with their excellent quiz on all things German and an inspired selection of dance tracks for the annual disco.
