Congratulations to Andrew Carter, celebrated print-maker and JAGS teacher of Art!
Andrew has graduated with an MA in Printmaking with Distinction from Camberwell College of Art, University of the Arts, and been awarded two prizes at the MA exhibition: the Bainbridge Award and the Jealous Gallery Graduate Prize.
It can’t have been easy, but Andrew has managed to combine a full-time post here with his MA course. “My first degree was in Fine Art painting from Central St Martins, so this postgraduate course has given me the opportunity to develop my own practice alongside teaching at JAGS,” says Andrew.
Some of this work will be shown at Christie’s in October as part of 'Multiplied', an exhibition celebrating contemporary printmaking and also at the London Original Print Fair at the Royal Academy in 2012. Work can be viewed on Jealous Gallery website.
“I have been studying part time at Camberwell for the last two years whilst teaching at JAGS full time. It has been hard to organise my time but I feel really happy with having achieved it. Camberwell has a famous printmaking department and fantastic etching, lithography, silkscreen and relief printing facility. The course has been structured in having seminars, lectures, group discussion, tutorials and print studio time, including a major written element, research and development of my own practice. Thank you to JAGS for allowing me two free afternoons to study. It has been a most worthwhile and challenging experience.”
If you want to see Andrew’s work, visit the Jealous Gallery and Christies 'Multiples' print fair. Look out for his prints in the Royal Academy Summer show – he’s exhibited twice with two prints each time – or visit his Open House in Dulwich Festival in May. Next year there’ll also be some work at the Royal Academy in the London Original Print Fair.
Two large relief prints cut from single blocks and installed at Camberwell College of Art. Each was 100cm x 200cm and printed on Japanese paper.
