JAGS sixth formers hammered home the political parties’ main points to their captive audience in 2 minute hustings at assembly. No age restrictions on voting here! Everyone from Year 7 -13 has the right to vote and everyone is expected to mark their decision with an X in the box and post their voting slips in the same way and on the same day as the General Election. Who will win? Will the result reflect the national results? We’ll have to wait and see.

If you need a reminder, here are snatches of policy from all four main parties:

Hari Conner (Green) We’re not just concerned about consuming natural resources, extreme climate change, tackling the environmental crisis and working towards a sustainable future, but also the social and economic crisis....We want a more equal society, to reduce the gap between rich and poor, to protect vital public services like the NHS.... We want an end to war, torture and the exploitation of the young....We’ll raise the minimum wage and make university education free....Of course we won’t be running the country but the more votes we get, the more we are taken seriously....The point of democracy is to vote for what you believe in....

Andie Gbedemah (Labour) We value social justice and strong community....We offer a continued commitment to securing economic recovery....We know we’ve been slammed by the Tories and Lib Dems, so let me explain....Why should young people vote Labour? Because we’ll lower the voting age to 16....We’ll look after the young 18-24 year olds out of work – you’ll see us visibly working in the community....We want new equality for women, equal wages and rights....You’ll be voting for a principled society, a fair for all community....

Alice Parker (Liberal Democrats) We think it’s all about Nick Clegg....We’re fed up of tribal warfare between parties....We are the sensible party....We want to give 16 year olds the vote. If laws affect us, why aren’t we allowed to vote? Key principles are justice and fairness....We would adjust the tax system which is disproportionate....we are for nuclear disarmament....We want to re-evaluate military expenditure, so we don’t haemorrhage money ....We would treat drug abusers not just lock them away, and increase green energy....All our policies are transparently about fairness....Labour have had 13 years to repair things. Wake up. Look around. See the mess. Vote Lib Dem....

Alex Wilson  (Conservative) Time to make a decision....What kind of country do we want?...We need change in how everything works....No more central control, bureaucratic directives.....We need to free doctors and nurses from red tape and ensure that money goes to those on the front line.... We need to change the way politicians work – if you’re not happy with the job your elected politician is doing you won’t have to wait till an election to get rid of him or her....We will make changes in the way the economy is run, cutting our deficit....There must be an end to life on benefits and a start to life with dignity and purpose....The change must be for the better....Tomorrow the nation has a choice....Let us hope it makes the right one.
