Talented Chemists and Other News
Friday 14 May marked a watershed in the lives of the Year 11 and 12 pupils who are now on study leave, focusing on the exams ahead. We wish them well.
We also celebrated news of a fantastic achievement by a team of Year 8 girls, who put their talents and learning together to find the answers to challenging questions they'd been set at London University's Department of Chemistry. They won 1st place overall in the Salters' Chemistry Festival, and were presented with their certificates in today's assembly. JAGS Chemistry department is now proudly using their prize: 3 sets of organic and inorganic model kits. Thank you and well done to Rita Otto, Alice Guillaume, Matilda Pimlott and Shalaka Bapat, pictured here. Read the full report here.
It's National Walk to School Week, 17-21 May. Not everyone can walk to school of course, but Headmistress Marion Gibbs asked parents to consider dropping daughters off within walking range, so we can all contribute to the campaign. It's good to notice our environment, to be healthy, to learn road safety skills. Click here for the poster.
JAPS and JAGS have contributed to the very successful Dulwich Festival, performing in the Gala Youth Concert held at Kingsdale on Thursday 13 May. The Junior Choir at JAPS, conducted by Pam Williams, accompanied by Head of JAPS Music Vincent Spencer, sang 'Grandfather Clock Rose'(Dunhill), 'A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes' (Hoffmann/Livingston) and 'This Little Light o' Mine'(Traditional). The JAGS saxophone quartet, led by teacher Louiza Beddoes, was a popular part of the programme.
Director of Music, Leigh O'Hara conducted an adult choir in a 'come along and sing' invitation to perform Hadyn's 'Creation' on Saturday 8 May at St John's, Goose Green.
Last week's terrific sports news and results are reported as a separate item.
