Judging by the queues at Dulwich Picture Gallery, the Paul Nash exhibition has attracted huge interest; it would be great if we could get the same level of support from the JAGS - and wider - community for the public vote in the competition for artists running alongside the show. Inspired by the Paul Nash exhibition, 13 of our young artists have had work in a variety of media accepted in the under 18 category, interpreting his ideas and the ‘landscape’ of Dulwich Picture Gallery.

Please view their work at http://dulwichonview.org.uk/2010/05/10/paul-nash-competition-peoples-vote/

and consider voting online for a young JAGS artist. But hurry! Voting is from 10 – 31 May!

Congratulations to Nida Iqbal,  Molly Mittelman, Angharad Kolator Baldwin, Amelia Coe, Laetitia Ward, Hari Conner, Tarabella Ward, Ruth Silverleaf, Flora Loughridge, Emily Quinn, Sophia Pardon, Talia Yilmaz and Helen Simpkiss. Winners will be announced on Dulwich OnView on Tuesday 1 June 2010.

(We are also still seeking public votes for the JAGS Japanese department website pages. It's the last few days of the comeptition. Please view the 10 school finalists at: www.japanwebpagecontest.org.uk)

Young photographers have impressed the Geography teachers here, judging the entries for the school magazine. The overall winners are Priya Gupta (Y8) and Sophie Sternberg (Y10), and the runners up are Ana McKellar (Y8), Meera Kumar (Y8), Cossie Howard (Y8), Elissa Day (Y7), Rose Saunders (Y12) and Thamasha Perera (Y12). You will see the winning entries in the next issue of the school magazine in the autumn!

The Maths department is celebrating the good news that in the Intermediate Olympiad and kangaroo competition certificates of merit were awarded to Suzanne Bristow, Melanie Duncan, Sian Evans, Anjali Garg and Llauma Kalns-Timans. Maria Young had also qualified to sit the paper but was absent. Mair Dew and Bea Natzler received certificates of participation. Well done to them all.

Athena Gupta has passed all 7 modules of the very rigorous computing exam, the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) – a huge achievement.

Congratulations to Susie Lyness who has passed her Grade 8 'Cello exam with Distinction.

Finally, in the JAGS election held here last Thursday, the outcome was scarily parallel to what happened in the General Election. Our own returning officer announced a high turn-out of 85% and the results in alphabetical order as follows:

Hari Conner for the Green Party: 97 (14%); Andie Gbedemah for the Labour Party: 104 (15%); Alice Parker for the Liberal Democrats: 244 (34%); Alex Wilson for the Conservatives: 257 (36%).

In a national election these results would convert to a hung parliament with Conservatives and Liberal Democrats as largest parties. Sounds familiar at the time of writing.

Miss Macpherson thanked all the candidates, their campaign teams and all voters. Everyone took their responsibilities seriously.

Sports news and results will be posted separately.
