Au Revoir! JAGS-Sèvres Exchange
It was á bientot to the French exchange group from Sèvres on Friday, and the French pupils will have boarded the Eurostar with happy memories of their visit to London. Just to get a sense of perspective, they explored some of the Kent countryside too, visiting oast houses and other places of local interest. The London host families organised fun, informal trips including to the cinema, ice skating and shopping, all designed to help the students to practise their English language skills; the official days out took them on a quintessentially English route, on a double-decker bus past Parliament Square and Big Ben, to St James Park, Buckingham Palace, Whitehall and on the river from Westminster Bridge to Tower Bridge. Being girls, the penpals enjoyed a lecture in the Fashion Gallery at the V&A Museum. They were plunged into Tudor history and learnt about Shakespeare, took a stroll down the embankment and became groundlings for an afternoon at a workshop on ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at the Globe Theatre. What a stimulating and interesting visit. Thank you to the French department for organising the exchange and to the host families and Year 9 pupils for making it happen so seamlessly.
