Sasha Milavic-Davies and Tamsin Clark led an inspirational Drama workshop for Year 10 GCSE Drama students in the Prissian Theatre on Thursday 25 February. Drawing on their physical theatre training in Paris at the L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq, and their experience of creating new work for their own theatre company, Sasha and Tamsin demonstrated the depth of concentration and attention to detail that goes into developing new characterisation. The Year 10 group worked intently as they moved silently through the space, ‘listening’ to each other and tuning into the exact moments to stop and start. They learnt to observe individuals, to imitate and to heighten mannerisms. Sasha and Tamsin taught them to explore their centres, to find what part of the body leads different characters and the noise that goes with it. They played with the essence of earth, air, wind and fire, finding the elements, not becoming them. Exhausting!

Fresh from the success of their devised piece, ‘The Forecast’, at Greenwich Playhouse, it was good to see two talented, alumnae practitioners so willing to share the process of their craft and their passion. You can catch up with the work Sasha and Tamsin have been doing with their theatre company in the summer issue of ‘To Read and So...’ By then they may have accepted the Green Party invitation to perform at their conference!  Please click here for more photos
