At the end of a week which has featured World Book Day, a whole school book sale and a visit from children’s writer and illustrator Sally Gardner, author of ‘The Red Necklace and ‘The Silver Blade’, there couldn’t be a better time to announce that last term’s Year 7 Readathon raised £1028 for seriously ill children. 7B are particularly proud to have read themselves into poll position, their efforts having been responsible for half the total. Well done!
If the Readathon is about purpose and pleasure, the U12, U13 and U14 netball teams equally demonstrated their passion and commitment in yesterday’s Surrey Netball finals in Epsom yesterday. All three teams played extremely well and the Year 7 team were successful in making it through to the semi final stage. They played some excellent netball and fought right up until the final whistle, eventually winning 7 – 4 against St George’s. They then faced St Catherine’s in the final. After a hard fought 14 minutes the score was 7 – 7 so extra time had to be played. The team gave it their all but unfortunately lost 2 – 3 in the final seconds, therefore finishing in 2nd place in Surrey. A fantastic achievement. Maddie Capstick, Ellen Rees, Izzy Graham, Emma Brown, Hattie Frizzelle, Katie Brown, Emily Travers, Anna Cardosa, Tarini Tripathi and Lisa Peterson received trophies in assembly today. Congratulations to them all.
12 girls represented Southwark in the London Schools’ Cross Country Championships last week and we were delighted that Southwark emerged as winners in both age groups. Team and individual medals were presented in assembly today:
Year 7 – Victoria Picken (1st team+2nd individually); Hannah Webb (1st team + 3rd individually), Phoebe Campbell (1stteam), Charlotte Davis (1st team), Sophie Hubbard (1st team) and Georgina Needham-Bennett (1st team).
Year 8 – Natasha Sinha (1st team + 1st individually), Greta Sharp (1st team + 2nd individually), Georgie Hay (1st team), Fiona Basham (1st team), Ele Evans (1st team) and Isobel Kelsh (1st team)
