Little did Year 12 pupils Quinta Pusey and Andie Gbedemah expect to be chatting to the great man himself when they took themselves to a David Dimbleby lecture at the British Library in February. David spoke to a packed audience about the making of his television series, ‘The Seven Ages of Britain’ and the importance of source material in understanding history. Rather than depending on looking at figures from the past, today’s technology makes it possible for us to look closely at artefacts and to magnify the detail we find.
Afterwards Quinta and Andie assured David Dimbleby that, despite the fact that they were the youngest by miles at the lecture, there are indeed people of their age interested in watching programmes such as his and who appreciate learning more about our past. At which he point he whipped out a pen and dedicated a copy of his book to 12Ba – Head of History, Mrs Barton’s tutor group!
