Congratulations to the U16 and U15 hockey and netball teams who had a fantastic and very successful tour to Malta over half- term, coming back with 6 trophies between them. The girls had 2 hours of coaching on 2 days followed by an inter-schools round robin tournament against the other English Schools in the afternoons. A day on the beach and a cruise around the harbour followed and we finished the tour with the Malta Festival on the Saturday.

The U15 and U16 hockey teams did exceptionally well finishing 1st and 2nd respectively in the midweek tournament with victories over Priors Field, West Kirby and Abbotsholme. The festival proved a little more challenging as between both teams we had to play 4 Maltese boys’ teams. The U15 finished 2nd in their pool winning 2 of their 3 games 5.0 and 2.0 (one of the boys’ teams) but losing 2.0 to the other Maltese team who went on to play in the final. The U16 finished 3rd in their pool after drawing 3 of their 4 games and losing to the eventual winners (U15 Boys National team). The U15 then had to play Priors Field in the 3/4th place play-off and ran out 4.0 winners.
The U15 and U16 netball teams came away with some outstanding results and all showed signs of huge improvement after the intense training and match play throughout the week. The Under 16A team fought their absolute hardest in the midweek tournament with Georgie Berriman scoring the winning goal in the final 10 seconds before the whistle, making the score 18 – 17 to JAGS. The U15 team narrowly lost in the final and so finished in 2nd place, another great result. The festival at the end of the week showed a reverse in the score line for the U15’s with JAGS emerging as convincing winners. The U16A team again reached the final of the festival and played exceptionally well, narrowly losing on golden goal. A fantastic match and an incredible standard by all players. The U16B team showed the most improvement as a team and finished a credible 3rd place in the festival tournament.
