The Geography department trip at half term to Iceland was a revelation – opportunities to visit glaciers and hot springs, look at huge waterfalls, the Northern lights and to walk the Elborg volcanic crater. Nothing better, perhaps, than viewing Iceland’s most famous volcano, Eyjafjallajokull, which blazed into world news when it erupted earlier this year. The GCSE, AS and A level groups were impressed to see how quickly the country has recovered, replacing its damaged infrastructure. It was also cool to collect their own samples of volcanic ash, rather than to buy them in tourist shops!
