Christmas Markets 26 -28 November 2010
Another year, another Christmas markets trip! This year 42 JAGS girls and five members of staff made their way early Friday morning to Germany. The weather in Europe played along beautifully and with temperatures below freezing and a nice layer of snow we enjoyed a real winter wonderland.
As in the past, our first destination was the spectacular market of Aachen which mainly takes place between the imposing buildings of the old town hall and Aachen cathedral.
After breakfast we left early for Bonn on Saturday morning where we sampled our biggest Christmas market and had the opportunity to try some wonderful traditional food. With sunset approaching it was time to head for our final destination, the little town of Monschau and it was here that the magic of Christmas worked the most. We enjoyed snow covered rooftops, a huge Christmas tree on the main square and a particularly pretty market in this medieval place while most of the time an orchestra was playing a selection of traditional Christmas carols.
To help us all to warm up after the market Year 11 had organised a quiz with prizes and the annual Saturday night disco.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped to make this a very successful and enjoyable trip!
