Year 9 have returned, thoughtful and the wiser after a highly successful trip to the First World War Battlefields this week. Led by the History department, they stayed in Belgium and went to sites around Ypres, but also visited the Somme and Vimy Ridge in France. The pupils were a particularly receptive and responsive group.

Ellie Harding (pictured here) left a personally written memento at the grave of her great-great uncle, Jack Harding, killed in 1915 and posthumously awarded the Military Cross for bravery.

A full report and photos will appear later.
