Summer
The Year 12 Geographers enjoyed a 5 day trip to South Wales during the Easter holidays. The four main aims of the field trip were to learn new field work techniques, develop knowledge of river characteristics and sand dune environments, examine population change in rural Gower and find out about the redevelopment of Swansea.
On Sunday 29 March the girls travelled down to Swansea by train with Ms Harrison, whilst Mrs Davis and Miss Wynn-Jones travelled down separately with the field work equipment and numerous pairs of wellies.
On our first night the girls settled in to the Oxwich Bay Hotel and enjoyed a walk along Oxwich Bay, one of the world's 50 best walks according to The Times on 17 April 2009.
On our first full day we walked from the source to the mouth of the River Ilston, taking measurements to help the girls prepare the their AS Skills examination. We ended up at Three Cliffs Bay, a stunning secluded beach, where we relaxed in the sun after a long day in the field.
On Tuesday we enjoyed a walking tour of the Oxwich dunes from the local sand dune warden and his gorgeous border terrier. The following day was spent exploring different villages of the Gower, interviewing local people and investigating different characteristics of the villages, again in preparation for the AS Skills examination.
We travelled back to London on Thursday 2 April after a very informative talk at the Council chambers of Swansea Civic Centre about the redevelopment of Swansea.
Each evening, before and after our delicious 3 course supper, the girls worked really hard to consolidate, present and analyse their findings. They worked brilliantly as a team and were a pleasure to spend the 5 days with. Well done girls!
