Summer
As part of the Bridge to A2 Geography course the AS Geographers visited the Olympic Delivery Authority on Thursday 18 June. Following an informative introductory talk about the roles of the ODA and LOCOG, the girls met the sustainability team at the ODA and participated in a workshop. We then hopped on board a coach and took a guided tour of the site, seeing the new stadium, aquatics centre and velopark mid construction.
After leaving the ODA office we went over to the current Stratford shopping centre and walked up to the 8th floor of the multistorey carpark to see the regeneration works from above (see the group photo for a glimpse of the new stadium in the background). On route back to central London we visited the London Dockland Museum to contrast the current redevelopment work in Newham with that of the Isle of Dogs and Canary Wharf in the 1980s. It was the teachers' third annual visit to the site and it was amazing to see the transformation from derelict/brownfield land to a hive of engineering and building activity. We look forward to returning next year!
