Round I is a challenging written test of chemical knowledge, and quite an event in itself. The questions are very demanding and innovative, involving topics of current interest such as drug manufacture and environmental and industrial problems.

They often stimulate enthusiastic debate, raising awareness of what chemistry is all about. Tackling the Round I paper also provides a good opportunity to develop some of the skills required for study at university and beyond.
