The Year 10 Geographers visited the London Docklands on Friday 27th November to develop their understanding of the regeneration of the area. We set our standards high, literally, in the Geography Department - our first port of call was the main boardroom of One Canada Square, on the 30th floor! We were treated to an excellent talk by the Canada Wharf Group's Community Liaison Officer who has worked for the company since the 1980s and witnessed the huge changes in the Isle of Dogs first hand. During the talk the window blinds had been deliberately closed but as they opened a spectacular view of South East London appeared. An unforgettable experience! After exploring the London Dockland's Museum and West India Quay, where the girls took photographic evidence of redevelopment and renewal we took the DLR to the Island Gardens, in the south of the Isle of Dogs. Here the girls learnt more valuable fieldwork skills, contrasted the range of housing and looked out for gentrification in the area. By 3.30pm the sun was setting and we were getting very cold so decided to head back to the warmth of the DLR and Jubilee line to make our way home!
