Autumn
News of some outstanding sporting triumphs in July came after term had ended, so it is with great pride that the PE department announces the following news:
In athletics – Many congratulations to Katie Snowden for winning the 800m at the English Schools’ competition during the summer holidays. As a result she was chosen to represent England in Ireland where she again won the 800m! Katie also ran the 3rd leg of the 4 x 300m relay, winning a team gold. During the summer the Junior and Intermediate teams took part in the National Track and Field finals. Both teams performed exceptionally well and the Intermediates came 10th whilst the Juniors came 3rd. Congratulations to Francisca Hamilton, Eleanor Robins, Alisa Hillary, Bee Eldridge, Ashleigh Campbell, Grace de Rome, Olivia Whiteford, Flo Savage, Natasha Sinha, Rhianna Madden-Hansle, Rita Otto, Yemi Sofolarin, Ella Balinska and Rita Otto, who were all presented with their medals in assembly.
In swimming, many congratulations to Natasha Sinha who participated in the National Swimming Competition in the 100m butterfly. She came a close 2nd winning the silver medal with an improved Personal Best by 3seconds. She achieved a British qualifying time and as a result she was invited to attend the England Talent Development Programme.
We were also impressed with news that Vicky Ross, Year 12, was one of a team of five to swim the English Channel in 13 hours, 41 mins. in the summer. Setting out from Dover, she swam for 2 hours 30 mins, eventually landing with the rest of the team in Calais on Adreselle Beach. They weren’t allowed much time to practise their French: 5 minutes later they had to get back in the boat and return to England. It was worth it though; she raised £6,500 for Demelza House Children’s Hospice.
