The Foundation Schools’ Remembrance Service, held in the grounds of Christ’s Chapel, Dulwich, is profoundly moving, perhaps partly because those who gave their lives for this country, so many of them young, are honoured by the young people of the 3 schools together with other representatives from the Dulwich Estates. The Combined Cadet Forces march proudly through the village to the Chapel, and the 3 School Captains lay wreaths to commemorate the dead. It is a solemn and very potent symbol of the sacrifices people have made for us all.
JAGS will be marking Armistice Day at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month within our school community.

Headmistress Marion Gibbs read to us an excerpt from Ben Okri’s ‘Mental Fight’. His words seem to linger long after assembly today:
You can’t re-make the world Without remaking yourself. Each new era begins within. It is an inward event, With unexpected possibilities For inner liberation. We could use it to turn on Our inward lights. We could use it to view even the dark And negative things positively. We could use the new era To clean our eyes, To see the world differently, To see ourselves more clearly. Only free people can make afree world. Infect the world with your light. Help fulfil the golden prophecies. Press forward the human genius. Our future is greater than our past. |
