Everyone knows the Earth is flat and that ships fall off the edge if they sail too close to it, don’t they?
Speaking in assembly, Head of Science Mr Putley launched this year’s Science Week on a fact-finding mission with a startling revelation: it isn’t! But it is an example of how scientific theories are disproved, because science is always developing and changing. 100 years ago, doctors didn't think that the appendix was important, and cut it out, even if the person wasn't ill. Recent findings have shown that it could harbour bacteria which aid digestion and fight infection. Alchemists thought it was possible to make gold from combining different substances, including urine, because there was gold present in everything yellow.
Here’s a challenge for you: in 100 years, which of our current theories will have been disproved?
