JAGS’ Students’ Outstanding A level Successes

Girls at James Allen’s Girls’ School in Dulwich are celebrating success in their AS and A level examinations this week. Students at this leading girls’ school were awarded A or B grades in 96% of all their full A level subject entries, with 80% of entries achieving an A grade (all in specialist subjects not General Studies). At full A level, Charlotte Thomas from Bickley achieved 7 A grades in French (with Distinction in the Advanced Extension Award [AEA]), German (with Distinction in AEA), Religious Studies (with Distinction in AEA), Latin, Classical Greek, Mathematics and Critical Thinking. Two girls achieved 6 A grades at full A level: Josephine Fogden from Westminster achieved A in French (with Distinction in the AEA), German, Economics, History, Mathematics and Further Mathematics; Anastasia Micheyeva from Bermondsey achieved A in German, Classical Greek, Russian, Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Four further girls, Helen Browncross from Dulwich, Anna Lindsey-Clark from Wandsworth, Imogen Parry from Wandsworth and Sophie Renner from Streatham gained 5 full A level A grades, with Helen and Imogen also being awarded a Distinction and Anna a Merit. Another 36 girls achieved 4 A grades at A level. In total 72 of the 106 Year 13 students were awarded at least 3 A grades at full A level, a standard reached by only a tiny proportion
nationally. This academic success is accompanied by a huge commitment to community service, music, drama, sports, debating and other extra-curricular activities (see notes below). Katherine Carpenter, from Blackheath, has won a Special Medal from the AQA Examination Board as the top candidate in the country in the Languages, Arts and Performance category, based on her A level Drama marks. Two girls, Katharine Kenny and Imogen Parry were commended by the Examination Board for achieving one of the top 5 marks in the country for their A level Physics examinations.

JAGS Headmistress, Mrs Marion Gibbs, said that she was delighted with this year’s excellent results. “All the girls and their teachers are to be congratulated; they have worked very hard for the examinations. We are also very pleased that the girls have still found time to give an enormous amount through their community service and extra-curricular activities.”
